Oh yes, absolutely I would drive this.  And I would do so with pride.  Very, very cool.

Star Trek PEZ!

Count me as excited!  I just found out that this fall PEZ candy will be releasing for the first time ever Star Trek character PEZ dispensers!  The timing was supposed to coincide with the release date of the upcoming Star Trek film, however, the movie has been delayed until next summer (bummer) and PEZ has decided to stay on track with their own release date (cool).  I have the Star Wars dispensers from back in the day (of course), but these will rank a lot higher in my opinion.  Sweet!

I'm a sci-fi nerd

I read a lot.  It probably works out to a book every ten days or so.  Some weeks I’ll rip through a couple, sometimes it takes a month to get through two books.  Depends on how crazy my life is or how good the book is (duds take me forever to finish).  I also usually have a couple books going at the same time; typically a youth ministry related book, and either a John Grisham novel (dude is awesome) or a sci-fi book.  If you actually read all my posts, then you already know I’m working my way through a Star Wars series, Legacy of the Force.  I’m not totally feeling it, but I’ve started so now I’m committed.

Anyway, all that to say that I actually caved and joined a Science Fiction book club this morning … six books for a buck was just too enticing a startup deal, especially given that they had the latest book in the Dune series, Sandworms of Dune by Brian Herbert.  I’m excited just thinking about it.  I gotta say, that Brian Herbert has worked the Dune series to a frenzy.  His dad is the guy who wrote the original series of books, one of the biggest selling series of books in sci-fi history.  Somehow, over the last decade Herbert, jr., has managed to crank out more Dune books than his dad ever did.  Each time it’s the last one … this latest last one came out last summer.  Apparently the next trilogy of Dune books drops this summer.  It’s like a neverending tray of lasagna … heaven.

So here’s my list of six that I am anxiously anticipating …

  • FIREFLY: THE OFFICIAL COMPANION.  Yes, I’m a Firefly nerd.  That show got cancelled waaaaaay before it’s tiime.
  • SERENITY: THOSE LEFT BEHIND.  More Firefly nerdery.  I just couldn’t help myself.
  • UP TILL NOW.  William Shatner’s autobiography.  Seriously.  I already have Sulu’s, Scotty’s, Uhura’s, and Spock’s, so it’s only right that I have Captain Kirk’s.  Don’t judge me too harshly, we all have our weaknesses!
  • THE ROAD TO DUNE.  A bunch of short stories and making of stuff from the original author of Dune.
  • HEROES.  A spinoff book from the TV show???  This will hold me over until season three!
  • SANDWORMS OF DUNE.  You know it, baby.

Yes, it looks like I have some great summer reading headed my way!

My 200th post! Woo-hoo!

Apparently it’s blog protocol to point out when you get to certain milestone numbered posts.  I didn’t when I hit 100 posts because I thought it was a silly thing to do, but now that I’ve hit the massive number of 200 (vs. Josh Griffin‘s impending 3000th post) I feel a little more inclined to look back.  I’ve played with having a website for about ten years now; they’ve changed a lot over the years from a basic one page static site way back when to the blog you see now, with half a dozen other variations in between (and most likely this isn’t the last).  I do have to say that I love the interactivity of blogging, though.  I love posting things I’m interested in, it helps keep my focus in maintaining my weight by writing about health related stuff, and my passion is youth ministry so I love having an outlet for things in the youth ministry world that jump out at me.  If I’m completely honest, when I started this thing last December I was hoping to get a hundred hits a week.  It’s done a bit better than that – to date there’s been 57,547 views in the almost five months which has absolutely floored me.  Especially since the number 47 is my absolute favorite number (it’s a Star Trek thing – maybe post 247 will be about that …).  Anyway, enough of that.  Here are a few of my favorites and ones that have caught me off guard.

Boothbay’s Biggest Loser Challenge Winner – the very first post!  December 19th, 2007.  Which in turn meant that Len Evans was my first comment!

Biggest Loser Casting Tips – okay, this one takes the prize for post that has run wildly out of control!  I originally posted it because every time Biggest Loser is casting, I get a bunch of emails asking for advice … so I thought I’d save myself some time and just post my thoughts.  Wow.  1057 comments/replies later, I’m still caught off guard by how popular this entry ended up.

Star Trek: Conquest – apparently my entries like this one on video games are pretty much ONLY for me.  Which is why I’m going to keep making them – video games are a bit of a hobby for me, so I enjoy posting about them.  But when I get the rankings on how often my different posts are viewed … the gaming ones are on the bottom!

My Weight Loss Plan – the single most clicked upon link on my site.  This is the one thing everyone at least glances at; it’s a summary of the plan I followed to lose the weight and now base my weight loss groups/competitions on.

The number 76 has an odd coincidence going on at the moment.  76 of my posts are youth ministry related and 76 are Biggest Loser related.  Interesting to me in that I have said all along that my blog is aimed primarily at people into Biggest Loser and people into youth ministry.  I had no idea that it was actually balanced until now, though!  🙂

I realized that for someone who claims to be a Star Trek fan … there is precious little of my favorite source of entertainment on my blog!  Well, problem solved.  Here are a few of my favorites from the Star Trek Inspirational Posters website!

So very, very happy.
