Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13)
I’ve begun working my way through Acts in my Sunday morning sermons at Boothbay Baptist Church, which brought me to chapter four today. I zeroed in on the above verse; what an incredible concept! That the only explanation for the incredible things coming out of these two guys’ lives was the fact that they had been with Jesus! Not that they were some sort of superstars, or some other type of incredible ability – they were every day guys doing things they should not have been able to, and the only possible way to understand it was the knowledge that they had been with Jesus. And this was coming from their enemies!
As believers, people need to be saying that about us! They need to look at our lives and see a love, a caring, a Christ-likeness that is only explainable by the fact that we are Christians. And if they can’t tell that we’re associated with Christ … well, that’s a whole ‘nother issue, and one that needs dealing with!
