Status Update

Okay, I haven’t fallen off the planet.  It’s been a crazy few days and I haven’t had much time with my beloved blog!  So to sum up …

If you’re one of the many people who have signed up for the Tending the Temple challenge, don’t worry, I’ll email you back soon!  I’m going to try and take care of that today – but there were more of you than I expected (that’s an awesome thing, by the way)!

Yes, I liked the new season of Biggest Loser … but I wasn’t enthusiastic about the nine people being sent home so soon.  It’s a cool twist, but it’s brutal to them.  I’ll blog more about that later, but suffice to say as someone who has been emotionally manipulated by reality tv, it pushes my buttons whenever I see it happen to someone else.

The family has been a mess!  Our kids all got sick over the last week!  Ug.  Micah missed some days of school, Caleb and Noah were cranky little punks, and poor five month old Zachary has been miserable!  At least the other ones are old enough to know what’s going on.  Sick babies are just so sad!

And there you have it … my status update!

  1. Hi Matt,

I was considering applying for the next season of the Biggest Loser but your comment and some other former contestants have given me pause. I suppose there is really no way around the twists and turns of this "game" but unlike the slew of other reality shows, this one actually affects the contestants entire lives. I would hate to feel crushed at the end of this experience and then having the entire world be a witness to it. Do you think that if you had the opportunity to do it all over again, would you?

  3. c'mon mcnutt…dude, I was FOR SURE you would finally think this is a good thing. They are gonna be home and do it on thier own and they can all come back…but in an even better way than when you got screwed.

I bet it's still pretty sore because it was such a shock in season 3, but by now, people have to expect something. I really like the twist and I hope they'll give updates of people at home. That's where the real action is.

  4. I was bummed too when they sent those contestants home. What hit me was what if that were me? I'd be devastated!

Sorry to hear that the boys are sick! 😦 Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

  5. I've only seen a few of the BL shows, but I also thought it was just brutal. Here the contestants had gone through SO MUCH to get to the ranch and then they are told they have immunity…but then they are immediately forced to go it alone? I think that the ONE saving grace is that many of them will work so hard and stay focused in order to bring their partner back.

The start of the BL was really touching to me though. I actually had tears to see how their lives were going to be changed. I really am rooting for the heaviest young man and his best friend.

  6. I "found" Matt and this great challenge when I ordered WHERE DID ALL THE FAT GO? by Dr. Rob Huizenga – the BL physician, from amazon.com. This book arrived a few days ago and it is AMAZING. Better than any of the other BL books in my opinion.

I especially like how Dr. Huizenga lays out an "exercise prescription" for each of the 26 weeks. I also liked that each week he lists what the average weight loss was for those that did this at home.

I urge any of you who haven't read it to BUY it. It is THAT good. Amazon has it for 34% off at $17.79 – but I think it is so worth it because I know that I will be referring to it constantly.

I haven't seen the BL Season that you're on Matt – but I did see how you were even featured in this book! What an awesome job! But even better how wonderful that you have gone on to help others conquer this demon as well!
