Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

My trek through the Star Trek films continues!  The fifth Star Trek film is often looked down on by many and was the first bomb at the box office for Star Trek movies – making significantly less than any of the four before it.  However, it does have a special place in my heart for many reasons … in spite of being the one where they go looking for God (like anyone ever thought they would actually find Him).

This was the first Star Trek movie I saw in a theatre!  My mom took my brother Danny and I to the local dollar theatre – I was PUMPED.  It was magical seeing these characters and the Enterprise on the big screen.  And it was an OLD theatre, so the screen was MASSIVE.  Very, very cool memory for me.

A couple years ago for my birthday, Heather got us tickets to a Star Trek convention where William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Spock) were the guest speakers.  She had also gotten me tickets to get their autographs and an actual movie poster from Star Trek V to get the autographs on (it has their faces prominently on the poster).  I have to confess, that poster is probably one of the number one reasons I’m looking forward to getting a home down here – so I can finally frame it and hang it up!!!

And all that to say, I like the movie.  And I think the opening 15-20 minutes, with all the cast on their various shore leaves, is perhaps some of the best character moments with the original crew out of all six original cast movies.  🙂
