Don’t you wish it was that easy?
Last Sunday we started a new series with the high school students called ‘Responding.’ Basically, we’re asking the question ‘how are we called to respond to …’ and then ending the sentence with a different topic each week, with their only major connection being that they aren’t usually talked about at church … but are everywhere else.
To get to the topics I actually asked the students to submit ideas, things they want to hear about but we don’t talk about. Of the four topics, some were from their suggestions, some were my call. Either way, everyone is curious to see what’s going to happen with them. They are (in this order):
- Responding to abortion
- Responding to death and suicide
- Responding to the LGBT community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender)
- Responding to disability
I led off the series last Sunday; I had wanted to post the audio but for some reason it recorded really poorly. I’m trying to see if I can salvage it/clean it up, but it’s taking some time. What’s exciting has been the response by students and leaders, they’re all excited we’re tackling the topics. What’s intimidating is the topics … several of them wherever we land is bound to cause a response with someone – which is probably why we tend to shy away from them.
Anyway, as we work our way through it I’d love to hear people’s thoughts and reactions. Hopefully I can post the audio to the first one soon!
