I just stumbled across this over at Reality TV World. Looks like another September premiere date for the new season of Biggest Loser! I’m curious how the format will go; with it being families it should have some unique dynamics going on. Jillian will be leading a team of eight consisting of parents and children duos, while Bob will be leading a team of eight husbands and wives. I don’t know if there is any real advantage on either side; there will probably be a lot of drama because of the relationships. At first I thought Jillian would have the advantage having the youngest contestants – then it occured to me that for each younger contestant, she would have one significantly older (the parent), so that probably cancels out in the long run. Anyway, read on to get Reality TV World’s report …
NBC to premiere ‘The Biggest Loser: Families’ on September 16
By Christopher Rocchio, 07/21/2008
NBC has announced The Biggest Loser: Families — the reality weight-loss series’ sixth-season — will premiere Tuesday, September 16 at 8PM ET/PT.
NBC had announced in February that The Biggest Loser’s sixth season would follow the same “couples” format as the show’s fifth installment this past spring, which was subsequently won by Alison Vincent — the show’s first-ever female champ. However that plan changed in April when NBC announced the Fall 2008 installment would be a “family edition” featuring teams consisting of two family members each, with the minimum age requirement being 18-years-old. At the time, The Biggest Loser: Families was also scheduled to air 90-minute episodes in the Tuesdays at 8PM ET/PT timeslot. But the reality series’ broadcasts have since ballooned and will now air, similar to the show’s fifth season, as two-hour episodes.
As was previously announced, Alison Sweeney will reprise her hosting role for The Biggest Loser: Families, which will also include the return of fifth-season trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper. While The Biggest Loser: Families was initially scheduled to serve as the lead in for Kath & Kim — a new half-hour sitcom starring former Saturday Night Live comedian Molly Shannon and actress Selma Blair — that is also no longer the case. Instead, The Biggest Loser: Families will serve as the lead in for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which will air Tuesdays at 10PM ET/PT beginning September 23. Kath & Kim will now air in the Thursdays at 8:30PM ET/PT time period beginning October 9.
