Biggest Loser: Farewell Pink Team

BL5

Well, I’m disappointed to say the least.  I really enjoyed watching the Pink team week after week.  What’s really disappointing to me, though, is how they went out.  Not because of yellow team; honestly, I get the decision they made.  I probably would have choosen out of the teams that voted against me as well, and Pink was the bigger threat.  No … what bothered me was the whole immunity thing.

Seemed kind of like a blatant move by the producers to keep the Black team around.  Think about it; everyone knew they were going to kill like no other week to make up for any loading their teammates might try to pull.  Their percentages were guaranteed to be up … but never mind that.  The producers have openly said in interviews that the scale on the show is a prop; in other words, while the reactions of the contestants are real since they haven’t seen their weights … but the production staff has already seen the weights.  In other words, they already knew who the Biggest Loser of the week would be – then they told the teams that who ever had the best weigh in would win immunity for that night’s elimination?  Nice way to cause a lot of drama.  And perhaps keep a team around that would otherwise have been guaranteed to go home.

I don’t know, maybe that was their plan all along.  It was almost certain with that many teams lumped together someone was going to try to throw the weigh in in exchange for something, so having an immunity ready for the team that tried the hardest NOT to throw the weigh in might make sense … but it still seems fishy to me.

I think Betty gets the prize for the best exit speech, though!  “I’m a sore loser!”  She and her daughter are an inspiration to everyone who watches and they certainly didn’t deserve to go home so soon!  But their results in the follow up reveal were amazing!  They’re killing it!  And they still have a few months to go until the finale!

  1. dude, I loved the show. I thought it was the best ever! I thought the immunity was a GREAT twist. and I loved Betty's comment about the need to quit the kiss @$$ speaches. It did suck that they left…but I thought it was the best show since some punk dude from Maine debuted in a giant field.

  2. Yeah the immunity thing was a bit contrived but it was there for everyone to win. I thought yellow made the smart decision going with Jillian (as much as her drill sergeant routine irritates me. I would NOT choose her for my personal trainer but in an all or nothing week you have to go with her). I do agree that the kiss a$$ was getting a bit much. Make your decision and live with it.

But I wonder about the final decision. Generally men have an easier time dropping weight so why not go after the OTHER all male team? The time comes when you have to decide if you're going to do what's right for the other people or win. I'd have dumped Gray. And while I understand that Orange was part of the conspiracy I would be very worried about them since they've put up some VERY good numbers. That may come back to bite the Yellows because Orange WILL make the decision to go for the win.

Also felt bad for Bob getting blindsided apparently by the water loading.

Plus, as long as I'm ranting here, I do not get the votes for Yellow in the first place. Black is the clear serious problem and Orange had been on a roll. The way the votes were spread out I don't think these folks are thinking straight.

Now if they'd put Black in that one against the world situation they'd STILL be stuck with them anyway so in the end I guess it doesn't make much difference. I just think they missed who the real threats were.

  3. Matthew, as my wife and I were watching it and they announced that they were giving the immunity to the team with the highest percentage, she turned to me and said that they planned that because they knew people were going to throw the weigh in. Whether or not they knew the weights before they made that decision I do not know, but I am sure they heard the conversations that took place and definitely planned to keep the black team around.

But I was sad to see the pink team go as well, but I was happy to see that they continued to lose weight and looked great. I am looking forward to seeing that "hot looking 58 year old woman" at the finale.

  4. I loved the twist! I thought it was perfectly plotted. It is life to people there, but it is ratings to the network. I think it was a great deviation from the usual and honestly, I did not like Betty so much anyway.
