I’m so very, very happy.
Not.
It’s actually popped up a few times on my XBox over the last year since I originally bought the thing … but this is the first time it wouldn’t start back up! For the uninitiated, XBox 360’s have a high rate of burnout. Literally. They overheat easily and fry themselves, which is then revealed by the above red ring of death on the front of the system signaling a hardware failure. Because it’s happened so much (my friend Josh Griffin is on his fourth system!), Microsoft is actually replacing them if it happens within three years of purchasing them. I was hoping mine would at least last until this summer when they start shipping the upgraded version with better heat control, but oh well. The clock was ticking the second I first turned it on. Today I got all of a couple minutes of game time before the thing gave up the ghost.
Oh well. Farewell my XBox 360. Even if I’ve hardly played you in the last month, I’ll miss you (for two to three weeks according to the XBox website). Actually … I still need to beat Metroid Prime 3, Zelda Twilight Princess and Super Smash Bros. Brawl on my Nintendo Wii, so I guess it all works out! There is a silver lining!
