80+ losers in Boothbay & Micah’s trip to the ER

We had our kick off for the next round of Biggest Loser Boothbay this morning and it completely caught me off guard.  I guess people like these things!  Round one had a couple dozen participants and round two saw 53 people from Boothbay sign up.  However, with this one being for the most part word of mouth and one fantastic article in the local paper about round two’s winners, I didn’t expect too much of a turnout.  In fact, with Boothbay’s summer craziness looming, I honestly thought we’d be lucky if 30-40 turn out.  Just to be safe, I made 60 of the handbooks and I had a bunch of calorie counters, so I thought if anything I was going to have a pile of leftovers.

Boy was I wrong.

Over 80 people turned out!!!  Holy sweet moley!  These things are snowballing!  I had to ask couples to share their handbooks until Wednesday night when I’ll have more ready, I ran out of registration cards (I had actually made 80 of those), and I was completely floored by the response!  When I have a chance, I’ll post the audio from the meeting – if I could find a way to post the video, I would, but it’s waaaay too long for youtube.

Meanwhile, in other news, Micah won himself a three hour trip to the emergency room.  Heather gave the kid some popcorn this morning while they were all out and about and he thanked her by shoving a popcorn kernal so far into his ear it couldn’t even be seen anymore!  Turns out, that’s not such a great idea.  In hindsight, he has no logical explanation for doing it whatsoever.  The doctor did fish it out but it had packed his earwax so far back that they had to spend another hour or so soaking his ear and then flushing it all out with water (he did NOT like that), and he has to take antibiotic ear drops for the next few days to make sure he didn’t get any infections or anything (he also does NOT like those).

I have to confess, the urge to stick a popcorn kernal into one’s ear is just plain bizarre to me.  Weird.

  1. Kids do some weird things. One time my son shoved a toy up his nose ..and I asked why? He said: "Because."

  2. WOW!!! 80, Thats GREAT!!! So how big of a target do I have on my back? I love BLBB ed and am excited for this round. I sure do need it! Thanks for the kick in the butt! Man I don't know what happend. I sure didn't think I was that bad.

I FINISHED the Rocky Coast Road Race!!!!! This is BIG for me! I have had this on my mind for fifteen years or more. My goal was to jog the entire way. No walking for me. I did it in 1 hour 9 minutes and 25 seconds. YES the seconds are as important to me as the points (204 point 4) are at weigh-in. I started out in last place and finished the same. The funniest part was the ambulance that had to follow me the entire way! If that wasn't bad enough, they had the lights on as well! There were times in the first mile when I was wondering why I wanted to do this. I also thought about quitting! As those thoughts were going through my head, God gave me a pat on the back and said I'm with you son. What an amazing feeling, I held back my teats and never looked back! There were people all along the way encouraging me, Friends, colleagues, Biggest loser Boothbay teamates, fellow racers, etc. Every time someone cheered me on I felt lighter and faster. As I came into the last POINT TWO miles my son Ben joined me and we finished the race together! As I crossed the finish line I was wrapped up into the arms of my loving wife Stephanie. We wept with joy!

Matt, I truly believe I would never have been able to do this without You and Biggest loser Boothbay. I am blessed to be a part of the Biggest Loser Boothbay team, and this great community!

Aren't ER visits exciting…I'm glad everything….(are you ready for this?)………Came out allright!
We are glad things went well. Thanks again for everything!

    TTFN, Tom

  3. What an awesome reply from Tom! Thank you for your faithfulness to this community and the Lord! Scott and I are so grateful to be part of Boothbay Baptist! On to the ear thing, no ear issues here (yet?), but Thomas did stick a bead all the way up his nose, to which the nurse laughed quite hard over the phone…boys!

  4. Tom – it was so awesome you guys went on the race! I wish the weather had been a little nicer for it. You made me laugh with the ambulance stuff. 🙂

Bree – ewwwww, a bead up the nose?!? What is it with kids and sticking stuff in ears and noses? I've heard way too many stories in the last 24 hours!

  5. Matt – When I was 5 I shoved a plastic headlight from a tonka truck so far up my nose you could see it just about where the eye socket and nose meets…yeah right about the tear duct.

It was Christmas and I wanted my nose to shine like Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Mind you this was RIGHT before school so I spent the morning in the ER. They had to call my dad from work to come and hold me down while they use really long forceps to pull it out of my nose.

Fun stuff. Yes it's a true story.
