WALL*E (review)

Yesterday, my two older sons (6 & 4), my mom and I went to see WALL*E at the local movie theater.  They were running a 3pm matinee so it was perfect!  Micah and Caleb each grabbed the Hot Heads candy and I let them have share a soda with me since their mom wasn’t around to stop me.  All in all, we had a great afternoon!  Here are the opinions …

Micah and Caleb both felt that the movie was “awesome” and “wicked cool.”  Yes, they’ve been living in Maine.

I have to say that I loved it, too.  It definitely wasn’t just a kid’s movie – but it was absolutely a blast for kids anyway.  I thought it was a great science fiction tale with a great story about loneliness and wanting someone to love.  I also enjoyed the story about humanity’s decline into a fat, lazy stupor.  At first I thought it was a little rediculous – to think humanity could get so lazy as to not even walk and simply be glued to their TV screen while nonstop eating?  Then I realized … even over the last decade the rate of obesity is growing exponentially.  Our constant need for video entertainment is a never ending quest; our Ipod’s and portable video game systems do video, even our cell phones are starting to feature television and movies!  Our automobiles come with video built in, and even gas stations have it at the pump!

I also loved that so much story happened with so little dialogue.  For an animated movie I thought that was a brave choice, but they pulled it off well.  To keep to small kids focused and entertained that long with virtually no dialogue?  Incredible!  And I was enthralled as well!  I loved the visuals, the emotion conveyed in the robots’ body language.  All in all, a great film that I have a feeling I’ll be watching over and over with my kids once it’s out on DVD.

  1. Matt.

My family went to see Wall-E yesterday as well (our kids are 5&6). We enjoyed it as well and I know the movie will only grow on me more and more as the other Pixar films seem to do every time I see them.

I thought about the growing obesity problem as well and how it's not that far off track to think that we've gotten so good at getting technology to do so much for us that we could just sit on our butts all day long and not notice what is happening around us.

Our family declared it a hit as well!

  2. It definitely was a fun film for all ages!
