Tending the Temple weight loss challenge: it’s GO time!

Okay people, it’s go time!  Read the original post about the Tending the Temple weight loss challenge here (includes rules & links to my weight loss resources).  The official kicking off date for the challenge is tomorrow, September 16th … but it’s basically any time this week.  Of course, the sooner you get the weight to me, the longer you have to lose the weight, but that’s the game, right?  But I digress.  Here’s what you need to email to me (matthewmcnutt@verizon.net):  a before photo of yourself (fully clothed!), and a photo of your feet on the scale with your starting weight on the scale.  Somewhere in that photo should be the image below of the dude in front of the mirror (this way we know it’s a current photo!).  Include in your email your name, state and email.  I will NOT be posting the photos online, or your real names if you don’t want them posted (in which case, give me a nick name).  I will also NOT be mentioning weights on my site – my weekly updates on people’s progress will be an honor roll of people who have lost one percent or more in a week.

There will be a prize!  At the moment it includes some Biggest Loser books and dvds; but I’m talking to some other people about scoring some other doo-dads for the compitition so that info will be coming soon!  : )  Questions?  Friendly banter?  Weight loss tips and advice?  Discuss away!  Let’s have fun with this!

  4. Hey Matt how can we tell what percentage we've lost? My husband has made some spreadsheet but I don't get it… is there a calculation us NON math people can do to determine that? So far supposedly I've lost 5% since 8/4 but no clue how… and I know I'm starting over TODAY for your challenge.

  8. lol I didn't paint my toes for him… my daughter and I (she's 2) did it a few days ago.. well she let me do hers. :o)

    So my "secret" isn't a secret, I count my calories … 1500 still for now, and I work out 3-5 times a week one hour each day. I'd be WAY further if I could get my butt in gear and do 2 hours a day like the book says! Oh ya the book. I'm sure you've read the posts by me a zillion times but it's the book from Dr. Huizenga of the Biggest Loser ranch each season.. it's called "Where did all the fat go?" Get it! It's awesome.

    Still wondering when I drop my calories more.

  11. I am SO making a pedicure my first goal reward! Good luck to all! My hubby and I are doing it together. Hope I don't kill him when he loses his weight faster!

  12. Man I wish there was a biggest gainer! LOL My hubby is trying SO hard to gain weight… oh I know, roll your eyes, I do! Now that would be an interesting team on the show eh?

    Hope everyone is doing well on their challenge!! I stunk at water today, only had like 2 glasses. grrr

    I submitted our team twice McNutties and McFatties but they accepted the McNutties. To Join, log into TBLL and click on the “teams” tab at the top. The top box is for requesting a new team, the second box is for locating teams. I cannot get the seach feature to work. If you click “browse all” you will get a list of all the teams, they are in alphabetical order. Right now ours is on page two. Once you click on the icon, you will find a click button “join this team”, click there and we’re off.

    Let’s go show them that we are not going to need to be on BL8!!

  15. I will be the first to admit that this week I have had more than normal extra activities… meaning I didn't get as many workouts in. Tuesday I was horrible on water but made up for it yesterday. I am having a very hard time even getting to 1200 calories for some reason right now. I'm just not hungry. Monday I did a Body Pump class at 6:10 in the morning (weight training) Tuesday nothing, Weds I did weight lifting at home from the Dr. H's book, tonight I'm doing some cardio. Ug I'm just not doing well this week but strangly I'm doing GREAT on the weight loss! I think eating the calories I'm supposed to (oops or under) is making me lose the 3-4 pounds a week.

  16. So far so good. I've also had something going on every evening this week so I've not gotten the second workout in YET! (I haven't even had time to watch the season premier of BL6 yet!!!) Grrr… but getting my morning routine in and doing great on eating so far. Adding on the evening workout and pushing myself harder physically starting tomorrow.

  17. If you're looking for an awesome workout, that doesn't require a whole lot of time, and can be done easily within your normal hour workout or in between other sets as your cardio…AND!! Gives you the greatest burn and you feel like you just ran 10 wind sprints…look into using Kettle Bells…a simple BASIC kettle bell workout…is INCREDIBLE!!! And definitely a great cardio, as well as muscle, workout… I do 3 sets of 25, just the basic swings…and HOLY SHNIKES!! Heart rate is going, legs feel fatigued…blah, blah, blah…lol Just trying to help!! Good luck!!!

    My BL workout DVD has mysteriously disappeared and I know I wasn't using it!!! Grrr…

  19. So far, so good. I ended up having to skip lunch today (unavoidable – not by choice – skipping meals isn't natural!) and almost sank into the 'eat-every-piece-of-crap-in-sight' mode…but talked myself down off that ledge. 🙂

  21. Here's a link to a Youtube video that shows you the basics. START with the two handed simple swing for a couple of weeks, before trying to move on to anything else. But, I GUARANTEE, if you add this exercise to any other circuit work you might be doing (every other day, 3 sets of 25 reps), you will find yourself burning quite a few calories and you'll feel great!! After you get used to the soreness, that is…haha

    So far, since getting serious about it, I've been able to drop 18+ LBS in roughly 8 weeks. BUT! The biggest benefit has been the slimming affects. Down into 38s easy now.

  22. I just got the book and am having such a hard time following it. I cant get the picture taken (whatever it is called) and cant figure out his formulas. Was anyone else this confused?

  23. Kiki I used the numbers for the BL contestants closest to me on the chart and figured out from there where I thought I should be. So far so good, I'm losing!

  25. My goodness I've never seen one of those Kettle Bells. Where in the world would you even get one? And man I'm clumby I can just see myself knocking myself out LOL

    Can we weigh in on Tuesday? That's when mine are going to be due to the Biggest Loser. (Unless you need them by Monday) Also, do you need another feet on the scale pic or just the weight amount we are? I am not clear on what you need each week and what day you need it. Thanks again!

    I will be sending you my pics for the week on Monday b/c I will be out of town at the Lifeway National Youth Worker's Convention this week. I hope there isn't a picture to go with it b/c I won't have it this week.

  29. You can get kettle bells at just about any sporting goods store now…or even order them online, but shoot, the shipping would cost too much…haha

    I purchased the two that I'm using, cheaper than at most stores…I went to Sport About, which is like a second hand store for sporting goods…most of the time, the stuff has been hardly, if ever used…I'm using the kettle bells every other day…I used em yesterday evening, after I had caught a 9 inning game…and SHOOT, felt like I ran 10 wind sprints…had to sit down, in my gym, as I watched the Cowboys run the table on the Packers…lol

  30. Oh shoot I thought weigh-in day was Tuesday! I sent my weight TODAY! Duh! Yes I was one of those kids who always "circled" the answer when the directions said to "underline" it! LOL ~Heidi (down 6 lbs!)

  33. Wow I am not sure which blog entry to be posting on now…casting tips, Go time, contest rules, or challenge update…so eenie meenie miney moed it and here I am.

    I have been mostly lurker while posting occassionally on Matt's site for about a year now! ANd I am now officially in for the contest. I sent Matt my info yesterday. And now that I have "officially" started…all I want to do is eat the most unhealthy things around me. Grrr…I do fine resisting temptations when there is nothing going on…but the minute I commit to something it is like all of Satan and his minions come around whispering lies that say I can't succeed so go ahead and enjoy!! Well I am jsut saying…Get BEhind me, Satan! OK that is all for now! I am going to go eat broccolli or some such healthy thing!
