Wrap a duck?!?

Chris, my assistant, pointed out a game to me in Wayne Rice & Mike Yaconelli’s Holiday Game Book (1989, Youth Specialties) that blew both our minds … I can’t decide if it was a real game, or if Yac & Rice were messing with people!  My favorite part?  Chickens and rabbits could work as well.  Here’s the game …

This is a great Christmas party idea if you have access to some live ducks.  Have couples compete to see which team can ‘gift wrap’ a duck the best in a two minute (or so) time limit.  Provide wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, etc., but no boxes.  Make sure that the kids do not hurt the ducks (squashing them or whatever), and this can be really fun to watch.  Other animals work just as well, such as chickens or rabbits.  Have the rest of the group decide who is the winning couple.

So what do you think?  Was the game for real … or joke hidden in the middle of a great game book?

  1. I think that in 1989 it was meant to be real. People weren't as uptight about ducks as they are today.

  2. That made me laugh more than the game did!
