The ski trip rocked!

We had a great senior high ski trip this year!  With almost fifty of us going, it was the biggest ski trip since I’ve been on staff – and it was a great group of teens and adults!  We actually rent out the lodge at the top of the mountain at Shawnee, which is amazing.  The lifts literally drop people off at the door of the lodge!  So we get to watch the groomers taking care of the slopes at night, be the first to break the snow in the morning, and enjoy amazing views the whole time.

The first night it was actually a little rough – the ski runs were icy, which meant I was wiping out all over the place.  I’ve got the bruises to show for it, too.  But that night we got about eight inches of fresh snow which made the skiing AWESOME on Monday.  We did have one emergency room trip on Monday; one of the snowboarders took a crazy spill and dislocated his shoulder.  They popped it back in and he’ll be wearing a sling for a while – but it’s kind of a badge of honor.  There’s nothing like coming home from a ski trip with a great story!

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was Sunday night.  Pastor Mark, our churches teaching pastor, made the trip with us.  He’s actually an extreme sports kind of guy; surfing in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, so we always jump at the chance to have him tearing up the slopes with the teens.  Anyway, on Sunday night he gave a devotional centered around his own personal testimony.  It was a great message for the whole group and it was cool to hear his story for the first time!  That’s him giving the talk in the photo above.

All in all, it was a great trip!  It was also the first year Heather was able to make it, so it was fun to be skiing with my wife – it’s been years!
