Time for the Student Quest Sunday recap for October 5th, 2025! We opened the hour with Useless Trivia: Weird Edition, a game I made. It’s a variation of my Useless Trivia game series (trivia no one will know!), but a little darker – I chose it for this week since Halloween is coming up soon and it’s weird but it’s not actually a Halloween game.
We had a few announcements/reminders:
- Small Groups are in regular mode this week with middle school on Wednesday and high school on Thursday, 6:30-8:00pm.
- High School Bonfire: October 11, 9-12 grade, FREE, 6-9pm. All students (and friends) in grades 9-12 are invited to the free bonfire and s’mores at Ed and Ruth Jones home (140 Huminski Rd, Elkton, MD 21921). Young people can drive to the event / get dropped off for it, or they can sign up for bus transportation to the event from the church; the bus departs the church at 5 pm and returns at 9:45 pm. Registration is only required for bus transportation; click here to register.
I taught our high school students this week, Eden Foester taught middle school. The high school group was in the first of three weeks in a series called Jeremiah: The Weeping Prophet, middle school was in the first of three weeks in a series called And Justice for All.
And Justice for All: This series explores three times that Jesus healed people who many would have considered unworthy and challenges students to offer the same type of compassion to others. This week Eden taught on the story of Jesus healing the unclean woman. The big idea was that Jesus came to bring justice to the lost cause. Here is a follow up question you can ask your middle school student(s):
- Have you ever been in a situation where you judged someone too quickly? What did you learn from it?
Jeremiah: The Weeping Prophet: When God called Jeremiah to speak truth to His people, Jeremiah’s first reaction was, “I’m too young!” But God reminded him that He had known and chosen him before he was even born, and promised to give him the words and courage he needed. We talked about how God still calls and equips students today to make a difference right where they are. Age doesn’t disqualify them; it just gives them a unique voice to use for God’s purposes. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your high school student(s):
- Why do you think Jeremiah felt too young to do what God asked him to do?
- Can you think of a time when you felt unqualified or nervous to do something good or right?
- What’s one small way you can “stand” for God this week; at school, with friends, or at home?
