Willie Lin taught our high school students this week, Eden Foester taught middle school. The high school group was in the second of three weeks in a series from Coleader called And Justice for All, middle school was in the second of three weeks in a series I wrote called Jeremiah: The Weeping Prophet.

And Justice for All: This series explores three times that Jesus healed people who many would have considered unworthy and challenges students to offer the same type of compassion to others. This week Noah taught on the story of Jesus healing the demon-possessed man. The big idea was that Jesus came to bring justice to the outcast. Here is a follow up question you can ask your high school student(s):

  • In what ways do you think listening to someone’s story could make a difference in their life?

Jeremiah: The Weeping Prophet: This week our students looked at how Jeremiah challenged God’s people for living one way at the temple and another way everywhere else. They treated worship like a good-luck charm while ignoring justice, compassion, and obedience. Jeremiah called them back to real faith, a heart that truly loves God and people. We talked about how easy it is for us today to do the same thing: say the right things at church, but chase after “empty wells” that never satisfy. Even when we fail, God’s grace keeps calling us back and offers a clean start. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your middle school student(s):

  • What do you think it means to “trade truth for trash”?
  • Why do you think God cares more about our hearts than just our habits or routines?
  • What’s one way you can live out real faith at school or at home this week?
