Time for the Student Quest Sunday recap for December 7th, 2025! We opened the hour with a game I made called Useless Trivia: Christmas – it was a lot of fun and we ended up having several winners!
We had a few announcements/reminders:
- Mission Trip Applications are due next Sunday! You can get all the information you need here.
- Christmas Parties! Our annual Christmas parties are this week! They’ll happen during small groups on Wednesday, December 10th, and Thursday, December 11th. Kids should bring a small gift ($5) for the gift exchange and be ready to have fun!
I taught our high school students this week, Eden Foester taught middle school. The high school group was in the second of three weeks in a series called Life, the Universe and Everything, middle school was in the second of four weeks in a series called How to Survive Middle School.
Life, the Universe and Everything: This series attempts to give students a new framework for reconciling faith and science while exploring the core message of Scripture. This week we learned that Genesis 1 wasn’t written to answer modern scientific questions but to point us to God. We explored different Christian views of creation and were reminded that believers can disagree on how the world began while still honoring God. The big idea: don’t panic! Faith and science can coexist, and unity matters more than winning arguments. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your high school student(s):
- What part of the message helped you think differently about the creation story or how ancient people viewed the world?
- Which of the three Christian approaches to creation make the most sense to you, and why?
- How does understanding the purpose of Scripture (pointing us to God and salvation) change the way we read passages like Genesis 1?
How to Survive Middle School: We learned that wisdom helps them shape our future now. We were encouraged to learn from others’ experiences, seek wisdom from God through Scripture, and actually live out what we learn. Eden challenged us to choose wisely today so we can become who we want to be tomorrow. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your middle school student(s):
- What’s one example of “letting someone else pay for wisdom” that you think could help you right now in school or friendships?
- How do you think reading the Bible could help you make better choices this week?
- What’s a wise decision you want to “throw the rock” on, something you want to actually put into action instead of just knowing?
