Time for the Student Quest Sunday recap for February 1st, 2026! In honor of next Sunday’s Superbowl we played Useless Trivia Touchdown, a game I made. We gave away a Renew Student Conference t-shirt to the winner!
We had a few announcements/reminders:
- Don’t miss small groups this week! Middle School on Wednesday, High School on Thursday, both 6:30-8:00pm.
- High School Nacho Night: Friday, February 6, 6:00-9:00pm, 9-12 grade, free, at the McNutt’s house. More information here.
We continued with our second of four weeks in Isaiah; while both middle school and high school are covering Isaiah, each series is different. I taught high school, Gabe (one of our juniors) taught middle school. Here are the summaries and follow up questions you can ask your student(s):
High School: Isaiah: The Suffering Servant | Is My Work Useless? We looked at Isaiah 49:1–7, where the Suffering Servant expresses deep discouragement, saying His work feels useless and unnoticed. We learned that even Jesus experienced moments of frustration and heartbreak, yet chose to trust God and remain faithful. The message emphasized that feeling discouraged does not mean someone is failing God. Instead, God meets moments of doubt with encouragement, reassurance, and care. Students were challenged to stay faithful when doing the right thing feels pointless and to respond to discouragement by turning to God and sharing their burdens with trusted people. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your student(s):
- What part of the message about feeling discouraged or unseen stood out to you most?
- Where do you feel like you’re doing the right thing, but it doesn’t seem to matter right now?
- Who is someone you feel safe talking to when you’re overwhelmed or discouraged?
Middle School: Isaiah: Experiencing God in Real Ways | Proof Positive. Gabe taught about prophecies found in Isaiah 9. In this chapter, Isaiah talks about the hope that the coming Messiah would bring to people, along with some of the names the Messiah would be known by, including Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace. These prophecies were written around 700 years prior to the birth of Christ. Gabe discussed how these prophecies give confidence in the accuracy of Scripture, as well as Jesus’ identity as the Messiah. He challenged students to think about how Jesus, the promised Messiah, has impacted their lives and what it means to truly follow after Him. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your student(s):
- How do these prophecies affect our view and understanding of Scripture?
- How can studying Old Testament prophecies help strengthen our faith in Christ?
- What impact do Jesus’ life and message have on us as individuals and as a family?
