Introducing Threshold Volume One

What is Threshold Volume One, the first book I’ve released under the McNutt Ministry Resources banner? In short, it is seventeen weeks of curriculum working through the first five books of the Bible.

But it feels like more than that to me.

For the past couple decades I’ve been operating from a seven year teaching plan I developed that balances topical issues, core needs, and introduces students to each book of the Bible over the course of their time in our student ministry. On the Bible front, that translates to about 20-25 weeks a year working through different books of the Bible, usually in three to four week series. There are a lot of great New Testament resources out there that we’ve taken advantage of over the years … but it’s hard to find Old Testament youth ministry curriculum.

So I started writing my own. The history nerd in me loves it. At this point, I’ve written and had published curriculum for most of the Old Testament … and I think I’m about a year or two away from completing my goal of writing youth ministry materials for every Old Testament book.

Which brings me back to Threshold! The message of salvation found in the New Testament is built on the foundation of the Old Testament. When Paul tells Timothy that “all scripture is God-breathed” and equips us “for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17), he was speaking of the Old Testament. Threshold is a seven volume curriculum set that spans the entire Old Testament, that provides a threshold for young people to cross over into the story of God’s love for them and His gift of salvation to them.

Threshold Volume One covers Genesis (four weeks), Exodus (four weeks), Leviticus (three weeks), Numbers (three weeks), and Deuteronomy (three weeks). If you’ve used my individual Old Testament series before, this pulls them together, standardizes the formatting, and adds parent communications. I’ve also updated the messages here and there to bring better clarity and understanding. They include PowerPoint and series graphics that are customized for each book of the Bible. The book comes in physical and digital form, with materials broken down to make it easier to email to volunteers. It also includes editable versions of the curriculum so you can customize it however you want!

My prayer is that this series of books can be a great resource for youth ministries and youth leaders around the country. If you want to learn more, click the link to check it out and download a sample!
