We finally had our retreat! Originally scheduled for the last weekend in August, we had to cancel because of a little weather disturbance by the name of Hurricane Irene. Because of the change up in timing, we did lose some of our campers to football and other school related activities, as well as the only weekend still available being a holiday weekend that a lot of families had vacations scheduled on.
Even so, we had an amazing time with beautiful fall weather at High Point Camp. Even without the extreme water activities (Blob, Summit, Water Slide all shut down earlier in the fall), we had a blast on the ropes course, the gym, coffee shop, paintball, canoeing and zipline! And ultimately, our major annual highlight being the Saturday night candle lighting ceremony. If I’m honest, that one piece of the schedule was probably the number one factor in trying to reschedule and still make the retreat happen.
Our theme for the weekend was ‘Homecoming,’ with a series on the prodigal son parable. Chris taught Friday night on the prodigal son, I taught Saturday night on the older brother, and Melissa taught on Sunday on the love of the Father. Melissa also closed out her teaching time by leading us in a time of communion, which was a great way to end the series. You can download the audio from all three talks on our podcast feed on iTunes. I’ll be posting photos on our Facebook page soon.
All in all, it was a great retreat and a blast to really connect with students and leaders during our time there!
