Time for the Student Quest Sunday recap for November 30th, 2025! We opened the hour with a game I made called Christmas Holidays True or False!
We had a few announcements/reminders:
- Small Groups this week! Don’t forget to come out for small groups! Middle School on Wednesday night, High School on Thursday night, 6:30-8:00pm.
- Christmas Parties! Our annual Christmas parties are coming up! They’ll happen during small groups on Wednesday, December 10th, and Thursday, December 11th. Kids should bring a small gift ($5) for the gift exchange and be ready to have fun!
I taught our high school students this week, Nathan Keeler taught middle school. The high school group was in the first of three weeks in a series called Life, the Universe and Everything, middle school was in the first of four weeks in a series called How to Survive Middle School.
Life, the Universe and Everything: This series attempts to give students a new framework for reconciling faith and science while exploring the core message of Scripture. This week, we explored how faith and science don’t have to be enemies. We learned that the Bible wasn’t written as a science textbook, but as God’s story of how He reveals Himself to humanity. Ancient people saw the world very differently than we do today, and God spoke to them in ways they could understand. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your high school student(s):
- What was something new you learned about how ancient people understood the world?
- How do you think faith and science can work together instead of fighting each other?
- What do you think the Bible is trying to teach us in Genesis if it’s not trying to explain the science behind creation?
How to Survive Middle School: This week we learned that the friends we choose today will shape who we become tomorrow. Using wisdom from the book of Proverbs, we explored the difference between casual “companions” and real, trustworthy friends, the kind who challenge you, support you, and make you better. Nathan emphasized that true friends help us grow, speak honest truth when needed, and influence our character in significant ways. We were encouraged to think intentionally about the people we spend the most time with and whether those relationships lead us toward the kind of person God is calling us to be. Here are some follow up questions you can ask your middle school student(s):
- What stood out to you about the difference between companions and real friends?
- How are your closest friends influencing the kind of person you’re becoming?
- What qualities do you think a good, godly friend should have? How can you be that kind of friend to others?
